The primary base for scientific documentation of the
Digital Flora of Texas project is the mass of Texas plant specimens housed
in Texas herbaria. However, interpretation of this base requires
reference to the product of past, present, and future floristic research,
i.e. the botanical literature. While the data access system referenced
below is designed for user query and return, we anticipate that this content
will be incorporated into developing project data systems as a digital
reference index. The initial prototype is based on local management
and processing. The version now under development will allow future
work with this index to be pursued as a collaborative enterprise via web-based
data management and processing.
