Digital expression of floristic information within the
context
of a digital flora provides an opportunity to present graphic imagery
that
is not present or limited in traditional media. Our current
effort
in this area is centered on the 'digital library' concept, i.e., an
assemblage
of content that is structured to provide access, in this case by
technical
name, and available for multiple applications. While primary user
access
is a fundamental objective of this library, it also forms a content
foundation
for current or future data expression systems of the Digital Flora of
Texas
project.
The current system is created from PC-based programs
that manage contributor
images and data (taxonomic summary)
to produce family-level access pages and a full text index that is
searchable by any string..
